“I have been on Exceed’s program for over a year now and as a result, I am more explosive, stronger, faster and more conditioned than I’ve ever been. I am a Pro MMA Fighter and Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and my career depends on such abilities. I have moved down from competing at 205 lbs to the 170 lb division and although I expected to lose strength and power due to the weight cut I have actually gained. What I love about their program is that it listens to your body and this is what optimizes my gains. Their understanding of the function of each exercise and how it translates to my sport is what makes them a top notch facility. I look forward to continued progress with my fitness and can’t wait to see what they can turn me into.”
– Aung La N Sang, PRO MMA Fighter, Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Baltimore MD
“Exceed = Results. After finishing up my Senior season at Bentley University, I wanted to continue to play Football. As a D2 Football player I was a long shot but knew I would have to blow up a combine to have a shot. And that is just what I did. With Shane’s help I was able to test at the highest percentile and was off to the Invite-Only 2nd National Combine out in Indianapolis. I ended up playing over in Europe and although Football ended shortly after that, my competitive aspirations were just starting. I decided to pursue MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and knew where to start. Shane is the most knowledgeable Combat Sport Strength and Conditioning coaches I’ve come across and his methods brought my athleticism, explosive power and overall conditioning to the next level. I won all three of my fights, including 2 professional bouts, in a total of 1min 46secs but was later retired due to a neck injury sustained in training. If you are a serious athlete in search of results, Exceed is the facility to see.”
– Mike Malvesti, NFL Combine Client, Pro MMA Fighter
“I have worked with Shane throughout High School at Acton-Boxborough and have continued through College. I currently play Lacrosse for the Nationally Ranked Umass-Amherst Women’s Lacrosse team. Shane has helped me increase my speed, strength and overall athleticism. He is a big part of the reason I have been able to overcome a nagging hamstring injury and continue to train and perform at an elite level. He is able to manipulate the program in order to benefit each of his athletes, especially those with injuries or have specific needs. Shane helped me achieve All-American status in High School and has helped me excel in the Collegiate ranks as well.
– Kelsey McGovern, Defender, UMass Amherst Women’s Lacrosse
“Sports have always been an integral part of my life. However, the preparation involving weight-training and proper technique was very unfamiliar to me. Despite my lack of experience, I was determined to getting stronger and bigger and committed to doing everything in my power to bringing my basketball game to the next level. Luckily, someone recognized my determination and I will never forget the opportunity Sean offered me. He asked if I would be his training partner and in return he would help me work on my speed and strength. Initially, I was doubtful of the strangers confidence, but optimistic and agreed to work with him. After only a few weeks of training, not only were my strength and speed numbers noticeably improved but I had also gained a considerable amount of knowledge of the process. Sean modified and personalized everything I did in order to help me perform on the court. Sean’s unique training style and knowledge gained the attention of everyone at the fitness center and before he knew it, Sean was working with everyone from other athletes, to parents and anyone simply looking to stay in shape. It’s never an easy day, but Sean’s motivational teaching instruction will help any athlete who is committed and prepared to work with him. My decision to workout with Sean was by far the best decision I could have made in pursuit of improving my athleticism. I am so fortunate to have gained his support, friendship, and guidance throughout my collegiate career.”
– Mark Palmieri, Point Guard, University of New Haven Men’s Basketball
“It was during my sophomore year of high school that I officially decided to pursue athletics in college, and luckily for me, I was introduced to Shane Davenport around that same time. After my first few workouts with Shane, I recognized that I was being trained by a guy who really knew his stuff. Whether it was doing sprints on the field, or lifting in the weight room, Shane’s teachings were effective and easily understood. He taught me the right way to do things, including valuable techniques focusing on injury-prevention. Looking at my current success as a collegiate athlete, I always think about the countless hours I trained with Shane, and wouldn’t trade in a second of that time. Outside of the many things learned, Shane’s positive and humorous demeanor always livened up the workouts. He was always encouraging and supportive to those around him, and he created a constructive environment where anyone could feel confident in what they were doing. As a result of Shane’s training, my overall athleticism has improved, and has been a huge part of my success as a collegiate athlete. I continue to practice the exercises and techniques I learned from Shane, and always feel thankful to have been able to work with such an ideal instructor.”
– Jesse Bilafer, 2-Sport Captain (Hockey and Softball) as a Junior, Endicott College
“Initially when I found out that I would need knee surgery, I was devastated and couldn’t imagine missing an entire soccer season. However, I quickly realized I had a tremendous support system including my family and my Strength Coach at home. I had ultimate faith in Shane’s knowledge and ability to get me back on the field. Initially I started my rehab process at school during the fall but it wasn’t until I returned home that Winter and started training privately with Shane that my progress and confidence started to really turn the corner. He used a number of tools such as slow-motion video to help me relearn proper patterns such as marching, skipping, running and stopping. When I returned to school and winter conditioning, not only did I possess the confidence to participate in all the team drills, I was excited to continue on the path I started with Shane. Most athletes will deal with bumps along the road, but having Shane as my coach made my return to the Soccer field just another season.”
– Shannon McSweeney, Defender, Yale Women’s Soccer
“Training with Shane in high school was far and away the best decision I made in my athletic career. I thought I knew what I was doing on my own, but after a few weeks training with him, I quickly realized otherwise. He helped me become a better and more explosive athlete and the results were noticeable. During my last season in High School I attracted some recruiters from Division 2 and 3 Football, which was not very likely in years prior to training with Shane.
Initially, I decided against playing at a small school and went off to Clemson University. I transferred to UMass Amherst the following year and after a few months I felt I had enough gas left in the tank to give football one more shot. So I sought out Shane once again. We got back to work, this time with the hopes of earning a spot on the Division 1 UMass Football team. Working with Shane gave me the confidence and physical tools to walk-on and compete at the highest level. All the hard work paid dividends when I was surprised by my coaches and awarded a full athletic scholarship my Senior year and later presented with the team’s Academic Achievement Award.
I owe Shane many thanks for helping me accomplish and experience these amazing feats. I would not have had the opportunity to do what I did without Shane’s guidance and I thank God that I was able to buy into his program as early as I did. Talent is great, but there is a lot of room that can be made up by training with a true professional like Shane. I learned this first-hand and I encourage any young athlete with a passion and work ethic to do the same.”
– Rob O’Connor, Linebacker, UMass Football
“Elite training is a must for athletes who strive to be the best. I cannot say that I am one of the best athletes around, but for 6 years, I received the best training from Shane during his tenure at CATZ. Shane is a tremendous performance coach; he treats every individual like a close friend and provides unique advice based on specific needs. Playing Division 1 Football required me to become a much stronger, faster, more mobile individual and the improvements I made are accredited, by and large, to Shane. I am very fortunate to have had Shane help me achieve my goals that I thought unattainable. Shane is a great coach and an even better guy. I cannot wait to see him exceed expectations, just as he has helped me exceed mine.”
– John Bumpus, Defensive End, Brown University Football
“I started training with Shane during the Spring of my Senior year of high school to prepare for college football in the Fall. When I started, I had limited strength and conditioning knowledge, and numerous injuries as a result of poor training guidance from local coaches. By the time I made it to camp I had dramatically improved my mobility, was injury free, and breezed through my conditioning exams.
I continued training with Shane each off-season during my tenure as a 4 year starting placekicker, and routinely showed up to camp more prepared than my teammates. I traveled over an hour (round trip), five days a week in order to train with Shane, and it was all worth it.
WARNING: Shane is hands down the most competitive person you will ever meet, and expects nothing but absolute devotion. If you are just looking for a place to hit the treadmill and go through the motions, look elsewhere.”
– Brian Harvey, Place Kicker, University of Maine Football
ADULT CLIENTS & PARENTS
“Our three boys (16, 14 & 11) have been working with Shane for over 6 years (written in 2012). We feel extremely lucky to have found such an exceptional trainer. His knowledge of strength development and the specific needs of young athletes is second to none. Shane has created personalized programs for the boys that have allowed each of them to make incredible gains in flexibility, strength and power. Under his watch, they have learned the proper technique of weight training and fully understand the importance of quality over quantity. Most importantly, the work they put in at Exceed has positively impacted their performance on the ice and allows them to excel at their sport while remaining injury free. His commitment to detail, passion for his client’s success, and his understanding of the demands placed on aspiring athletes is what sets him apart from many others in his field. We highly recommend Exceed Sports Performance & Fitness for everyone.”
– Sharon and Garrett Burke, Boxborough, MA
“I went to Exceed at the end of December and told him I wanted to get back in the gym. For years I tried gaining weight with little success. Having known Shane my entire life, I decided to give him a shot. I told him my goal was to get stronger and put on muscle mass and in 3 months I put on 22 pounds. I never thought this was possible for me, but Shane is unlike other personal trainers I’ve come across. He has a vast knowledge on Strength & Conditioning as well as a good grasp on nutrition. Not only does he know how to put programs together based on your goals, but he is dedicated to his profession and he will give you the tools and motivation to meet those goals. With the Exceed staff and facility, the sky is the limit.”
– Brian Colecchi, Adult Personal Training Client
” Shane is a former teammate of mine from Prep school, and we met up last year at our 10 year reunion. I explained to him that I had been in an accident and had suffered some rather serious injuries. It had been a lengthy recovery process to this point but a lot of discomfort and limitations were still there. Shane implemented a strength and rehabilitation program that was specified for my injuries and weaknesses. Working strategically on my posture and flexibility issues, the results were amazing. My overall pain was reduced, and I quickly made serious progress at the gym. As my rehabilitation needs became less of a necessity, Shane continued to provide excellent programs that worked around my lingering health issues. Nine months later, I am currently in the best shape of my life.
This entire process has sparked an interest of mine and I am now pursuing a career in health and wellness. He has gone out of his way to guide me in the right direction towards becoming a fitness professional and I’m looking forward to helping others the way Shane has helped me.”

“I wanted to get in shape and look great for my wedding so I called up Shane. My goal was to lose about 15-20 pounds of useless “college football weight” and increase my strength overall.
Shane tailored a program specific to my needs, which consisted of a great balance of strength training, mobility, fat loss and cardiovascular work. He also provided me with diet guidelines to help change my eating habits, which he assured me would get me to my goals. It certainly did.
I went from an average weight of 220 to 200 over the course of the program, greatly improved my body fat percentage and got that lean, “ripped” look I was looking for. To my surprise, my strength levels also increased significantly, especially considering all the weight I dropped. My overall health also greatly improved as my blood pressure and cholesterol levels dropped.
What I like most about Shane’s program is that it wasn’t a “crash diet” or “60/90″ day workout plan. Its a sustainable program engineered to change my overall eating habits and workouts going forward. Not only did I look great for my wedding but my entire approach towards fitness and diet changed for good! I still employ many of the techniques and exercises he taught me to this day when I work out and my diet has never been better!”
– Brandon Hall, Online Personal Training Client
“Working with Shane has been great! When I first started with Shane I had been working out regularly but was looking to push myself more. Shane made sure he had a thorough understanding of my goals, capacity and training history and created a program that pushed me to consistently improve.
One of the things I appreciated most about working with Shane was his flexibility to tailor his programming to fit my needs. We worked together once a month to go over the new plan and to make any corrections to my movements. Each new program would consider my current goals and he was always available to answer any questions. Shane is really knowledgeable about diet and exercise and has been a great resource. Since I’ve started working with Shane I have made a number of improvements – including a full 6 chin-ups – something I never would have thought possible on my own!”
– Amanda Ryder, Online and Personal Training Client
“My son Finn began working with Shane before his very first season of football ever, in 6th grade. At that time Finn sometimes fell over just running across the field. Shane is an athlete at heart and has a great ability to assess and train athletes specific to their sport and their level of development. More importantly he inspires athletes to work their hardest and have fun doing it. We would strongly recommend him to athletes of any age! Here’s Finn from this year’s season (8th grade).”
